About 20 years ago today, on September 29, 2001, we were pleased to be invited to a grand event celebrating the rededication of the Fillmore County courthouse in Geneva, Nebraska. Our firm, then known as Berggren and Woll, Architects, was responsible for the $2.6 million dollar restoration and renovation project of the courthouse that began in 1999.
The rededication celebration, planned by the Friends of Fillmore County Courthouse, included a formal program that featured costumed speakers, a parade, tours of the building, a carnival, live music, and more. Then Governor Mike Johanns was the featured speaker. He made an impressive entrance to courthouse lawn through the National Guard via helicopter.
We are very proud of this project. It was a great team effort between the county officials, talented craftsmen, and the Friends of Fillmore County Courthouse who accomplished much fundraising. JLC Construction of York, Nebraska served as general contractor and did a phenomenal job moving the project along. The construction company also arranged for the donation of a special United States flag, one that had previously flown over the U.S. Capitol, to be presented to Fillmore County to fly over the courthouse.
It is hard to believe that 20 years have passed since the rededication. The courthouse most definitely continues to serve as beautiful, stately landmark in downtown Geneva. Berggren Architects is pleased to have helped preserve this fine building.
