CAP Assessment

Barnes County Historical Society Museum

In 2018, Berggren Architects, along with a professional conservator, performed a CAP Assessment (Collections Assessment for Preservation) for the Barnes County Historical Society Museum in Valley City, North Dakota. The building was built in 1956 as a local variety store. It was acquired by the museum in 1997. The Barnes County Historical Society Museum preserves and celebrates the community’s heritage by discovering, collecting, and preserving historical records and artifacts of the Barnes County Area. Working with the museum’s curator and assistant curator, Berggren Architects created a list of short-term, medium-term, and long-term goals to help the building perform better for the public and as a curatorial space.
