Additional Info

Constructed in 1917 with a large donation from William Auld, the Auld Public Library has served the community of Red Cloud continuously until the present time.  In 2009, Berggren Architects created a report for the preservation of the existing library and for an addition to accommodate persons with disabilities.

Due to the scope of the project, multiple phases have been designed in order to make financing the project possible.  The first phase of the project involved reroofing the existing library.  The original clay tiles were lifted and stored while the roof decking and gutters were repaired.  The tiles original tiles were then reinstalled on the roof.  Phase II will include relighting the library space as well as adding a fire sprinkler system and installing additional insulation in the building to increase its energy efficiency.  Phase III will repair and damproof the foundation as well as repoint the intricate brickwork on the library.  After the existing library building has been made weather tight, the new accessibility addition will be constructed.  The addition was designed to fit in with the existing library and will include an accessible entrance, an elevator, and a fully accessible restroom.
