Valley County Courthouse
Berggren Architects was hired by Valley County in 2011 to provide architectural services to bring the building up to code, increase the accessibility of the building, and restore portions of the historic building fabric. The courthouse was designed in 1919 by William F. Gernandt and has gone through three major phases of updates. The first phase was to construct an exterior stair on the building for a second means of egress. The second phase added a new elevator, fire sprinklers, and a new fire alarm system. The third phase restored the terra cotta and brickwork on the exterior of the building. Throughout the updating process, Berggren Architects remained sympathetic to the existing building.
