The Challenge

In 2011, Berggren Architects was hired by Valley County to provide architectural services to bring their courthouse up to code, increase building accessibility, and restore portions of the historic building fabric.

In 2016, Berggren Architects was hired to re-design the sheriff’s department to improve security and convenience.

The Strategy

Berggren Architects has overseen the courthouse through three major phases of construction. The first phase saw the construction of an exterior stair as a means of egress. The second phase added a new elevator, fire alarm system, and fire sprinkler system. The third phase restored the terracotta and brickwork on the building exterior. Throughout this multiphase process, Berggren Architects has remained sympathetic to the existing building.

The Results

Berggren Architects renovated the historic courthouse and sheriff’s office.
