From 2017 to 2021, the Nebraska Association of County Officials (NACO) hosted a series of workshops aimed at informing Nebraska commissioners about maintenance and risk-management-related protocols for their respective historical courthouses. Workshop topics included fire safety and natural disaster preparedness.

After the workshops were discontinued, Berggren Architects questioned whether valuable day-to-day courthouse maintenance practices had become harder to share or access. To address these concerns, our firm has proposed a Pilot Program to efficiently tackle common challenges and disseminate valuable procedures related to the preservation of municipal buildings.

These dialogues may encourage a wide range of economic benefits, such as earlier diagnosis of structural instabilities, stronger emergency management protocols, and updates to courthouse technology without compromising historic integrity.
